NTFS permissions for BizTalk File Adapter

If you give the host instance where your file adapter is running under modify rights on a file location that a receive port is using that port will fail to start. You will see the following error in your log:

The receive location "locRcv_Batch_File" with URL "\\Server\Data\In\*.txt" is shutting down. Details:"The Messaging Engine failed while notifying an adapter of its configuration. ".

The easy solution is to give the host instance service account full control NTFS rights. But some companies have a policy against using full control NTFS rights. Giving full control is not strictly necessary. Just ‘modify plus’ rights will do: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sanket/archive/2009/06/06/required-ntfs-permissions-for-biztalk-file-adapter-connecting-to-network-share.aspx
